Project Information

We are updating the Town's Municipal Development Plan (MDP) to address issues and trends that have emerged since it was last updated in 2016, and to make sure it aligns with recent changes made to the Municipal Government Act (MGA)

Public Engagement Round 2

Where We are Now

In the second round of engagement, we will gather feedback from community members on the draft vision and community priorities. The following opportunities will be available:

  • Community survey (online or paper submissions accepted)
  • Online map to pinpoint locations of concern, interest, or importance
  • Workshop with Edson’s Youth Council
  • Two pop-up events in the community
  • Monday, April 20, 2026, from 1:30-2:30PM
  • Tuesday, April 21, 2026, from 9:30-11:30AM

MDP Timeline

FAQs

What is an MDP?

A Municipal Development Plan (MDP) is the primary policy document that provides long-term guidance to direct future growth and development within a municipality. It also guides the policy direction for other municipal planning documents, such as Area Structure/Redevelopment Plans, and the Land Use Bylaw.

Why is the MDP important for community members?

The MDP shapes the future of the Town in ways that directly impact daily life. Its vision and policies guide decisions about land use, direct the type of growth and change the community wants to see, and prioritize infrastructure and services to support desired growth. Active participation in the MDP update process is important so that the plan captures values, priorities, and lived experiences of community members, while making sure that municipal objectives align with the things that matter most to residents.

Why is the Town updating the MDP now?

The MDP was last updated in 2016. It is important to make sure the MDP reflects recent changes to overarching provincial legislation (i.e., the MGA) while making sure it reflects the current needs and opportunities in our community.

How will the Town collect feedback on the project?

We will be collecting feedback from the community through a variety of in-person and online opportunities over the next several months. Dates and times of all confirmed engagement activities will be posted on this webpage and advertised through the Town’s social media platforms. Check back in late fall/early winter to learn how you can participate.
